Hit-and-run suspect turns himself in
Student faces felony charges

A CU student will be facing possible felony charges after allegedly hitting a 15-year-old boy with his car on Feb. 23.
Police said 21-year-old Alexander Rek, a senior majoring in economics, was accompanied by his attorney when he turned himself in Monday after a judge signed a warrant that included possible charges of felony vehicle assault.
Rek was the suspect involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured 15-year-old Eliseo Rodriguez on the 800 block of College Avenue.
Rek did not respond when contacted for comment.
Witnesses told police that Rodriguez was walking eastbound with some friends when a black Volvo sedan swerved in the group's direction. Some reports said the driver appeared to have accelerated before hitting the victim. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. The victim was taken to Boulder Community Hospital and was treated for a broken bone and bruises. He has been released.
On Feb. 24, officers searched Rek's garage with his consent after speaking to him and identifying him as a suspect. They found a black Volvo with front-end damage in the suspect's garage. An anonymous tip helped lead officers to Rek's home and car.
According to the police report, Rek was booked into the Boulder County Jail on suspicion of vehicle assault, hit-and-run and two counts of felony menacing. His bail was set at $10,000.
According to the records department of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Rek bonded out of jail. He is scheduled for his first appearance in court on March 13 at 2 p.m. at the Boulder County Jail.
